Organisation Description
The Pacific Fusion Centre was established in 2018 to support Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders in addressing regional security priorities outlined in the 2018 Boe Declaration on Regional Security. Operating from Port Vila since December 2021, the Centre hosts Pacific Island analyst secondees and provides open-source strategic security assessments for Pacific officials.
The Centre's mission is to enhance regional security by improving information sharing, building assessment and analysis capacity, and strengthening collaboration among Pacific security stakeholders. Its vision is to become the regional centre of excellence for open-source strategic security assessments, capacity building, and knowledge sharing.
Job Description
The Assistant Director will play a key role in strengthening the Centre’s reputation for excellence and collaboration. This position involves building strong partnerships across the Pacific security community, prioritizing cooperation with government national security agencies in Pacific Island countries, and engaging with relevant regional organizations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strategic leadership, provide guidance on policy direction, oversee the delivery of high-quality programs, and foster a high-performance culture within a diverse, multi-disciplinary team. A deep understanding of the Pacific region’s security landscape, including Boe Declaration priorities and emerging security challenges, is essential.
Selection Criteria
Extensive knowledge of regional security issues and strong strategic assessment skills.
Proven senior leadership and team management experience.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, advocacy, and representation skills.
Relevant experience in the Pacific context, ideally within government, regional, or security agencies.
Fluency in English and excellent cross-cultural interpersonal skills.
Nationality: Must be a citizen of a Forum Island Country (including Australia and New Zealand)
Education: Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations, law, business, management, or a related field (essential)
Postgraduate degree in security, international relations, public sector management, or related field (highly desirable)
Experience: Minimum of 5 years' senior management experience in public sector, regional, or international organizations
Salary: AUD 125,000 – 175,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
