We are looking for a skilled and qualified Marine Engineer Class 5 to become part of our marine operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the vessel's engines, mechanical systems, and supporting equipment are operating safely and efficiently. You will carry out maintenance, repairs, and inspections while complying with Vanuatu maritime regulations and company safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
•Operate, monitor, and maintain the vessel's propulsion engines, generators, and supporting mechanical equipment.
•Perform scheduled servicing, inspections, and repairs to maintain the reliability of all engineering systems.
•Monitor engine performance, fuel usage, and the condition of onboard machinery.
•Keep accurate records of engine room operations, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
•Ensure all engineering operations comply with the requirements of the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA) and relevant maritime legislation.
•Maintain adequate stock levels of fuel, lubricants, spare parts, and engineering supplies.
•Troubleshoot equipment faults and respond efficiently to mechanical emergencies.
•Maintain a clean, organised, and environmentally responsible engine room.
•Work collaboratively with the vessel's Master and crew to support safe and efficient daily operations.
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants should have:
•A valid Marine Engineer Class 5 Certificate of Competency (CoC) recognised by the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA).
•Current STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
•A valid Seafarer's Medical Certificate.
•A minimum of 2–3 years' experience working on commercial vessels.
•Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic equipment, and auxiliary machinery.
•Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
•The ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
•Good written and verbal communication skills.
•Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, public holidays, and travel on inter-island voyages when required.
Preferred Qualifications
The following will be viewed favourably:
•Previous experience working on passenger or cargo vessels operating within Vanuatu.
•Familiarity with Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
•Current First Aid or Advanced First Aid certification.
