Job Description
Iririki Island Resort & Spa is seeking a qualified and reliable Ferry Boat Driver to join our team. Reporting directly to the Resort Manager, this role involves operating the resort’s ferry vessels, transporting passengers and cargo safely and efficiently between the mainland and Iririki Island. The ideal candidate will be able to maintain scheduled routes, manage loading and unloading procedures, and ensure a high standard of guest service throughout every journey.
Key Responsibilities
• Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Safely piloting ferry and barge vessels between Iririki Island Resort and the Port Vila mainland dock.
• Operating sunset cruises and other harbour tours as required.
• Piloting Iririki ferryboats daily while providing engaging commentary (“spiel”) and interacting positively with guests,ensuring both safety and exceptional service.
• Overseeing the loading and unloading of guests and their belongings while maintaining appropriate passenger limits.
• Cleaning and maintaining the ferry and other boats; inspecting vessels daily for service issues and reporting any concerns promptly.
• Checking fuel, water, oil, and the mechanical condition of vessels before each trip.
• Following all emergency procedures in the event of an incident, completing incident reports, and notifying the Resort Manager immediately.
• Repairing, securing, or reporting any safety hazards related to the boats or jetty areas.
• Informing the Manager about required routine or preventative maintenance for boats and engines.
• Complying with all company policies related to Environmental, Marine, Health & Safety, Emergency Action Plan, and Risk Management Programs.
Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, skills, and attributes
•A valid and up-to-date Seafarer’s Certificate
•Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar marine or ferry operation role
•Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors
•Strong concentration and attention to detail
•Solid technical aptitude and mechanical awareness
•Good judgment and effective problem-solving abilities
•Clear communication and active listening skills
•Ability to work effectively as part of a team
•Good overall health, with strong hearing and vision
•Proven navigational skills and vessel-handling experience
•Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings when required
•Strong time-management skills and reliability
•Competence in emergency and disaster response procedures
