Position Summary
General Manager / Operations Lead
We are seeking a hands-on and commercially focused leader to manage the day-to-day operations of Archipel Solutions. This role is responsible for driving revenue and profitability across the fuel and hardware network, with particular emphasis on roofing product sales, while establishing clear, practical systems that can be effectively run by local teams.
The successful candidate will oversee multi-island operations, manage small on-site teams, coordinate monthly resupply through Ocean Logistics, and develop Archipel into a stable, scalable rural distribution business—allowing ownership to focus on logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
•Full responsibility for the business P&L across fuel, hardware, and roofing operations
•Increase sales volume and gross margin, particularly in roofing products, through straightforward commercial offers and consistent execution (e.g. bundled deals, local promotions, digital outreach)
•Lead, support, and performance-manage island-based operators and warehouse staff, including setting targets and enforcing core operating standards
•Ensure strong inventory and cash controls across all locations, minimizing stock losses, shortages, and discrepancies
•Plan and coordinate monthly fuel and hardware resupply schedules with Ocean Logistics vessels servicing Epi, Pentecost, and future expansion sites
•Design and implement simple operational tools such as pricing guides, sales scripts, signage, checklists, and basic reporting systems
•Build and maintain positive working relationships with local chiefs, councils, major customers, and community partners
•Provide monthly performance updates to the owner, covering revenue, margins, profit, stock issues, cash management, and priority actions
Candidate Requirements
•Minimum 5 years’ experience in hardware, building materials, construction supply, or a comparable trade or retail environment
•Demonstrated success managing a small to mid-sized P&L with measurable revenue and profit growth
•Experience supervising frontline operational teams (store, warehouse, yard, or site-based staff)
•Comfortable working across rural, remote, or multi-site environments and willing to travel regularly to island locations
•Ability to communicate in Bislama
•Strong English skills with practical knowledge of spreadsheets and mobile-based coordination tools (e.g. WhatsApp)
•Eligible to live and work in Vanuatu (work permit support available)
•Product knowledge in hardware, roofing materials, cement, steel, and/or fuel
•Previous experience working in the Pacific region or other remote island logistics environments
Salary
Salary package will be competitive and based on experience and capability.
