Position Overview
The Shipyard Equipment Operator will assist with vessel launching, retrieval, drydocking, and general shipyard activities. The role involves operating a range of machinery and equipment, preparing slipways, handling marine airbags, and supporting the safe movement of vessels within the yard.

Key Responsibilities
•Operate forklifts, winches, air compressors, hydraulic jacks, and other equipment used for vessel launching and retrieval operations.
•Prepare and maintain slipways by cleaning work areas, levelling surfaces, and correctly positioning cribbing, tracks, and support structures.
•Safely handle and position marine airbags in accordance with established procedures and engineering requirements.
•Monitor the inflation and deflation of marine airbags, maintaining the required pressure and ensuring correct positioning throughout operations.
•Assist with the installation and removal of rigging equipment, slings, blocks, and other systems used for vessel movement.
•Carry out regular checks and basic maintenance of machinery, tools, and marine airbags to ensure they are safe and ready for use.
•Follow workplace safety requirements and actively participate in risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and pre-operation briefings.
•Coordinate with supervisors, signalmen, and other crew members to ensure vessel movements are carried out safely and efficiently.
•Maintain accurate operational records, including airbag identification numbers, pressure readings, and slipway conditions.
•Assist with general shipyard and yard maintenance duties during periods when •launching and retrieval activities are not taking place.


Selection Criteria
Qualifications and Experience
•Completion of secondary school or vocational/technical training in mechanical work, marine operations, equipment handling, or a related field.
•Formal certification or practical training in forklift operation, rigging, or heavy equipment operation will be an advantage.
•Basic understanding of mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, and pressure-operated tools is desirable.
•Workplace health and safety training or maritime safety certifications, including Basic Safety Training (BST), will be considered favourably.
