About the Assignment
A qualified consultant is invited to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the beef value chain in Vanuatu. The assignment aims to examine the industry's performance from production through to domestic consumption and export markets, providing practical recommendations to support sustainable sector growth.
Assignment Objectives
The successful consultant will conduct an in-depth evaluation of the beef industry and develop evidence-based recommendations that contribute to:
• Strengthening government policies
• Identifying investment opportunities
• Improving institutional capacity
• Encouraging greater private sector involvement
Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for:
• Mapping the complete beef value chain, including input suppliers, support services, aggregation systems, transportation, slaughtering, processing, marketing, distribution, and both informal and ceremonial market activities.
• Evaluating the efficiency, challenges, and bottlenecks affecting each stage of the value chain.
• Identifying opportunities for improvement and proposing practical strategies and investment priorities to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the beef industry.
Qualifications and Experience
• A postgraduate qualification in Agriculture, Livestock Production, Agricultural Economics, Value Chain Development, or another closely related discipline.
• At least five years of professional experience conducting value chain assessments, preferably within the livestock or agricultural sector.
• Good understanding of agricultural systems in Pacific Island countries or other small-island economies.
• Strong analytical, research, stakeholder consultation, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and in remote or multicultural environments.
• Knowledge of Bislama or previous professional experience in Vanuatu will be considered an advantage.
